The first we knew about this South American inspired October wedding was a call from Kate (aka Pinks) asking if we could source some lamas for their day - it felt like a bit of an ask as we didn’t have a tame lama person up our sleeve, but we cracked on with the research & ended up feeling quite expert on domestic camelids…
Alpacas & armadillos
In the end it was alpacas (all the lamas were busy that weekend - literally) & there were a herd of them – including a baby called Caramel (it’s all about the fleece). Grown-ups posed with them, babies gurgled at them & the bride kissed their velvety noses – top marks all round!
As a travelling couple Ben & Pinks had spent many happy months in Chile & Peru so wanted everything to reflect their love of this continent. There were hand knitted finger puppets (armadillos & lamas) as wedding favours, ditto the table names, fantastic themed food flavoured with chilli & lime, & a stirring musical processional from ceremony area to reception marquee from the Bristol School of Samba (both bride & groom were members) before dancing the night away to folk rock band Jonah’s lift.
Todger hockey
There were plenty of quirky extras that were off message as well – the stupendously named (& well played!) todger hockey, complete with face masks for opposing teams (badgers & foxes) which unfortunately covered guests’ eyes so had to be taken off for the serious business of bullying off…
Badger & goat
There was a dressing up box with more masks for pictures & just messing around, Cornish grown flowers from our favourite grower, fresh green hop vines round the bar, giant toadstools & a life size badger who was keen to get at his namesake beer.
Oh and the ultimate wedding accessory – a random goat with a broken horn – he spent some time grazing on the marquee lawn & then hopped into a nearby tree where he was offered canapes by a passing waitress – we aim to cater for all guests here – however unusual…
